Support Dogs for Veterans and First Responders

Gateway K9 is opening up their service dog group classes to the public.  This is for those who are not a service member, or who are and would rather train their own service dog.  (A referral letter is required from a licensed medical professional)

Each dog wanting to enter our classes must meet the following standards before applying:

  • One year of age or older.
  • Up to date on all vaccinations and spayed or neutered.
  • Must have attended or can test out of a basic and intermediate obedience class.
  • Must be able to pass the AKC Canine Good Citizen test
  • Pass our requirements on temperament.

Classes are held weekly, and we do hold a strict attendance policy. To complete the course it takes an estimated year of training.

Not every dog can or should become a service dog, and not every pet who attends our class will meet the qualifications for graduation and our certification.

We do charge per class, and all funds go back into Gateway K9, to help cover the costs of providing service dogs for veterans.  The cost of badges, vest, and training equipment is not included in the weekly costs.
